Alexandria, Ontario, June 17, 2020 – The Township of North Glengarry is inviting the public to review the draft version of its new Clear Cutting By-Law, which is now available on the municipal website.

The Clear Cutting By-Law does not prohibit cutting individual trees, it serves to regulate the clear cutting of trees in areas greater than 1-hectare (2.5 acres). In order to undertake clear cutting under this new proposed Clear Cutting By-Law, applicants are required to submit an application on the prescribed form, along with a fee of $50 per acre up to a maximum fee of $500 per clear cutting.

As part of the application process, Township staff will collect comments from the required departments, to ensure that all permits are fully evaluated. If approved, a “Tree Clear Cutting Permit” will be issued and posted on the subject lands.

A “Stop Work Order” or a “Work Order” may be issued to stop clear-cutting and/or rehabilitate or replant trees in instances where the Township believes that a contravention of the North Glengarry Clear Cutting By-Law has occurred. Penalties may be imposed on anyone who directly contravenes this proposed By-Law, after it comes into affect.

For more information, or to request a copy of the Clear Cutting By-Law and supporting documentation, please feel free to contact the Township of North Glengarry Building, By-Law and Planning Department by email at planner@northglengarry.ca.  A copy of the draft Clear Cutting By-Law is available online at https://www.northglengarry.ca/en/town-hall/draft-clear-cutting-by-law.aspx.
