This ceremony was done on behalf of the Governor General of Canada.

The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers is a Canadian decoration handed out by the Governor General to honour volunteers who have made a significant and continual contribution to their community.

The medal recognizes the exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians from across the country in a wide range of fields and pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of volunteers. They embody the caring country we aspire to build.

Since immigrating to Canada in 2007, Marius Bauer has been very active in giving back to the community through his volunteer work at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 423 in Alexandria; and with the Air Cadet League of Canada. He is also the treasurer for Alexandria 200 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Glengarry Inter-Agency Group (GIAG).

Marius was presented his medal by North Glengarry Deputy Mayor Carma Williams.

“Marius is a very deserving volunteer. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to the Legion. The work he has done, and continues to dedicate himself to, has been of great benefit to the entire community as a whole,” said Deputy Mayor Williams.
