Recreation Union Members to Strike

Please be advised that effective today, August 23, 2024, the union representing the recreation staff, SEIU Local 2, has opted to exercise its legal right to strike.

This strike comes after mediated negotiations reached a standstill between the Township of North Glengarry and union representatives. Workers will be on strike until a collective agreement with agreed upon settlement terms can be reached.

The strike will not impact programs running at the Tim Hortons Dome, the HGMH pool, or the use of park grounds. Township recreation programs are unaffected by the strike and will continue as scheduled. Users who have reservations for activities or events in the North Glengarry Sports Palace, the Maxville & District Sports Complex, or the Sandfield Centre at Island Park that may be impacted of the next while have been contacted.

“The Township remains open to renewed talks and welcomes any opportunity for dialogue with union representatives.” Indicates North Glengarry Mayor Jamie MacDonald. “The goal has always been to reach a negotiated agreement and minimize disruption to our residents.”

The Township of North Glengarry apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and we will keep you updated as negotiations continue. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
