Alexandria, Ontario (Wednesday, September 30, 2021) – During a special meeting of North Glengarry Council on Monday, September 28th, Michael Madden was sworn in as the new Ward 3, Alexandria Councillor for the Township of North Glengarry.

Father Jonathan Blake from St. Finnan’s Cathedral and Père Didier Kaba de la paroisse Sacré Coeur attended the event to offer their blessings, after which Mr. Madden was officially sworn into office by North Glengarry’s Chief Administrative Officer, Sarah Huskinson.

Mr. Madden took a moment to say his thanks to those in attendance, before sitting down to participate in his first meeting as a member of Council.

Alexandria residents had the opportunity to cast their ballot at the advance voting polls, which were open between September 21 and September 24 and on voting day on September 25th.

Of the 2,244 registered voters in the Alexandria ward, 570 people came out to cast their ballot; representing 25.4 per cent of registered voters. A total of 330 ballots were cast in favour of Mr. Madden. Runner-up Gilles Paradis received a total of 239 votes.

Every four years, voters across Ontario decide who will represent their interests and lead their communities by electing the members of their municipal councils and school boards. By-elections are held when a Council seat becomes vacant prior to a general municipal election. The next municipal election is scheduled to take place in late 2022.
