COVID-19 Information

Information from the Township of North Glengarry

ENFORCEMENT OF COVID-19 REGULATIONS

The Township of North Glengarry By-Law Officers are still enforcing provincial regulations regarding COVID-19. This measure follows Ontario’s order under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

During the “phased” reopening of the province, North Glengarry By-Law officers are able to proactively monitor and respond to calls regarding:

  • People congregating in municipal parks, using park amenities or equipment;
  • Non-essential businesses that are operating; and
  • Gatherings of more than five people in public spaces or in private residences.

Officers will take an educational approach to these new measures and will take the opportunity to inform residents and businesses of the importance of following these rules and will respond to complaints accordingly.

Residents who witness any of the above violations of the provincial emergency Order can contact the Township Municipal Law Enforcement Officer, Todd McDonell, at 613-525-1110 ext. 251 or todd@northglengarry.ca, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. Outside of these hours, residents can call Ontario Provincial Police’s non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122.

Complaints regarding the non-compliance of mandatory quarantine following international travel can also be reported by calling the Ontario Provincial Police’s non-emergency line at
1-888-310-1122.

TOWNSHIP OFFICE CLOSURE - Effective March 25, 2020, Town Hall is closed to the public but offices will be staffed, though access to these premises will be closed to the public as a means of ensuring the health of our residents and personnel. Residents are encouraged to conduct business with staff over the phone at 613-525-1110, by email at info@northglengarry.ca and obtain information online at www.northglengarry.ca whenever possible. In the event that business must be transacted in person, we ask that residents call ahead and schedule an appointment with the department/individual concerned.

RECREATION:  Further to the directives issued by the Province and Dr. Paul Roumeliotis from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, the boat ramp at Island Park in Alexandria will be accessible to the public as of Saturday, May 16th, in time for the Victoria Day long weekend. Municipal outdoor basketball and tennis/pickleball courts and the skate park will be open as of Tuesday, May 19th. While municipal park green spaces are open to the public, playground equipment and bathrooms remain closed until further notice. Users are asked to respect Public Health safety recommendations while using any park installations.

Other recreation facilities and community halls remain closed to the public as per the directives received from the Eastern Ontario Health Unit in response to COVID-19.

TAX UPDATE - During COVID-19 we want to make sure that our residents stay safe and that their basic services remain operational. To support this, the North Glengarry Council has decided that:

  • No interest will be charged for April or May on overdue accounts for both municipal taxes and water services;
  • No water services will be shut off for non-payment.

GARBAGE AND RECYLCLING -  We encourage residents to verify if something can be recycled or donated (but it is important to check with the organization first).

  • Household Hazardous Waste Day and Pitch-in Week have been postponed.

FACEBOOK - Information that is timely in nature and advisories regarding services that may be impacted by COVID-19 are posted to our Township Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/northglengarry/?ref=bookmarks. Please Follow and Like our Facebook page to get all the latest information.

EASTERN ONTARIO HEALTH UNIT - During this period, the Township greatly encourages all residents to follow the Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s recommendations to reduce the spread of germs.

  • Personnes qui se rassemblent dans les parcs municipaux et qui utilisent des équipements ou structures ;

  • Qu’aucun intérêt ne sera imposé en avril et mai sur les comptes de taxes foncières et des services d’eau en souffrance ;
