The Township of North Glengarry has several advisory Committees of Council, all working to ensure our community is one that embraces change while respecting the rich heritage of the area. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend meetings.

Art, Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee

The objective of the Arts, Culture and Heritage Advisory Committee is to promote awareness of the culture, arts and heritage of the Township to both residents and visitors alike.

In 2019, the Community Improvement Plan Approvals Committee (CIPAC) was incorporated into the Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee, and remains responsible for providing opinions to Council on the applications submitted to the Community Improvement Plan (CIP). Property owners interested in participating should email the Economic Development Officer or call 613-525-1110 X300 for more information on the program.

The committee meets bi-monthly on the first Monday at 1:00 pm, in Council Chambers at the Township Main Office, located at 3720 County Road 34, Alexandria, Ontario however, dates may vary.

Committee of Adjustment

The Committee of Adjustment is made up of the Township of North Glengarry Council members.

The Committee of Adjustment hears applications for minor changes to one or more provisions of the Township Zoning By-law 39-2000.

The Committee of Adjustment may make a decision to accept the variance, deny the variance or defer any decision to a later date as part of the meeting.

The Committee of Adjustment meets depending on the applications that come into the office. The meetings are held every other Monday and they start at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers at the Township Main Office at 3720 County Road 34, Alexandria, ON.

Community Development Committee

The Community Development Committee will address subjects such as potential school closures or boundary changes, agricultural concerns, economic development opportunities, and priorities that will be identified through the Municipality’s Strategic Plan.

The meetings are scheduled for the last Wednesday of the month at 3 pm in Council Chambers at the Township Main Office, located at 3720 County Road 34, Alexandria, Ontario however, dates may vary.

Glengarry Sports Palace Board

The Glengarry Sports Palace is managed through joint Township of North Glengarry and Township of South Glengarry Board.

The meetings are scheduled for every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the Glengarry Sports Palace (170 MacDonald Blvd., Alexandria ON).

Planning Committee

The planning committee in the Township of North Glengarry is a committee of local authority councilors that sit as the local planning authority to determine planning applications.

Advice is usually given to the committee by planning officers who provide a recommendation for approval or refusal. Meetings are cyclical and are usually held between every two weeks and must be open to the public.

Rural Committee

The purpose of the Rural Committee will be to examine rural and agricultural issues that arise in the Township of North Glengarry and provide recommendations to Council.

The committee meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30pm, in Council Chambers at the Township Main Office, located at 3720 County Road 34, Alexandria ON K0C 1A0.
