Roadside Spraying

Roadside spraying takes place in the Township of North Glengarry to help control the growth of noxious weeds. This treatment is conducted on roadside ditched in rural cross sections.

No Spray Areas

Property owners can opt out of the roadside spraying program by having “No Spray” signs at the start and finish of their properties. The dimensions of the sign must be one foot by two feet and the sign must be placed approximately three feet from the edge of the gravel shoulder. The signs must be easily visible, at least one foot above the vegetation and at the start and finish of the property.

Please note that roadside spraying will not occur if the ditch is maintained as lawn/mowed on a regular basis.

Spraying occurs from the edge of the gravel shoulder to within one metre of the property limits.

Only Government of Canada-approved herbicides are used.

The Contractor will be using the following pesticides registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada):

  • ClearView Herbicide (Reg. #29752), containing the active ingredients Aminopyralid, present as potassium salt, and Metsulfuron-methyl.
  • Gateway Adjuvant (Reg. #31470), containing the active ingredients Paraffinic Oil and Alkoxylated alcohol non-ionic surfactants emulsifiable concentrate.
  • Arsenal PowerLine Herbicide (Reg. #30203), containing the active ingredient Imazapyr, present as isopropylamine salt.
  • VisionMax Silviculture Herbicide (Reg. #27736), containing the active ingredient Glyphosate, present as potassium salt.

Property owners can erect “No Spray” signs at the start and finish of their properties if they do not want the right-of-way sprayed in front of their property. Signs must be one foot by two feet and placed approximately three feet from the edge of the gravel shoulder. The signs must be easily visible, at least one foot above the vegetation and at the start and finish of the property.

The United Counties of SDG intends to utilize Wagar and Corput Weed Control Inc. to control noxious weeds along guardrails and roadsides. The contractor hired to perform this work is fully licensed.
