RRCA Tree Seedling Program Application Form Now Available

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 6, 2025

The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) launched the application form for its 2026 over-the-counter spring seedling program, which provides property owners in RRCA’s jurisdiction with easy access to a curated list of 21 native or naturalized tree and shrub species at lower costs.

“Maintaining a strong tree cover is one of our greatest assets for keeping our region’s watersheds healthy, productive, and resilient," says Lisa Van De Ligt, RRCA’s Communications and Stewardship Team Lead. “Trees can mitigate flooding and bank erosion, promote infiltration and groundwater recharge, provide corridors and habitat for wildlife, and keep valuable topsoil and nutrients on farm fields by reducing runoff and wind erosion.”

Property owners can access the application form at rrca.on.ca/Trees to select their trees. In past years, the application deadline was in March, but this year’s deadline is coming much faster on December 12, 2025. After applications are received, the RRCA will provide applicants with a spring 2026 pick-up place and time.

“Whether you are looking to grow a privacy hedge, a windbreak, or a forest, this program is here to provide you with the trees you need to enhance your property, and by extension, the greater health and resilience of our region,” adds Van De Ligt. “We encourage all property owners to take advantage of this program.”

Available species include returning favourites like sugar maple, white cedar, and elderberry; new additions like swamp white oak, Canada plum, and Kentucky coffee tree; and fast-growing species like white pine, tulip tree, and trembling aspen.

In addition to its over-the-counter seedling program, the RRCA offers full-service planting for landowners looking to plant 500 or more trees. RRCA also partners with its member municipalities to host annual tree giveaways and organize community planting events. In 2025, the RRCA added over 55,500 trees to the region – adding to over 1.3 million trees planted since 1994.

Landowners, teachers, businesses, municipalities, and community groups are encouraged to connect with RRCA staff for support with their tree planting initiatives. For more information, visit rrca.on.ca/Trees or contact (613) 938-3611 or info@rrca.on.ca.
